Information: | �Learning at Home-Learning in School� is a workshop for parents who want to promote their child’s thinking, problem solving and learning skills. Working with simple materials and easy to play games and exercises, we will explore the nature of learning and achievement and how equipping children to make full use of their own intellectual, physical and emotional resources can reliably encourage their success.
�Learning at Home-Learning in School� is geared to parents of preschool age children, but the techniques and principles considered will also be useful for families with older students. The workshop will be held on Saturday, February 25th from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Symposia bookstore in Hoboken, NJ. Registration is limited to 12 and the fee is $25 per participant ($40 per couple). You may register by phone (201-963-0909) or email (info@symposia.us). Payment in advance, by February 20th, is necessary in order to assure participation. �Learning at Home-Learning in School� will be led by Andrew Lerner, Ph.D. who is a school psychologist for the New York City Department of Education. Noted Photographer to Speak at Library Saturday, February 18th, 2006 |

Information: | On Saturday, February 18 at 2 pm at the Library, noted photographer and Hobokenite Benedict J. Fernandez Jr. will discuss his experiences as Martin Luther King Jr.’s personal photographer in the mid-1960s.
The event,sponsored by the Library Board of Trustees, will also mark the opening of a special exhibit of a dozen photographs of Dr.King that Fernandez recently donated to the Library’s permanent collection. These photos will be displayed at the Library during February as part of the Library’s Black History Month activities and may be viewed during regular Library hours. Fernandez’s photographs have appeared in many publications and been exhibited in museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art and the International Center of Photography in New York, the University of Tokyo Library and the Biblioteque Nationale in Paris. The photographer served for 22 years as head of the Parsons School of Design/New School Photography Department. His many exhibitions include photos of the Hispanic community, the protest movement of the 1960s, a series on bikers and the Hoboken waterfront. Last year the Hoboken Historical Museum exhibited his “Like Family, Photographs of Hoboken Shipyard Workers.” |
