Donations are the lifeline of our business. If you have used books, CDs, DVDs, games, toys that you don’t want anymore, you can drop them off at our store and we’ll give you a tax-deductible receipt!
Musical Open Mic Night – Thursday, Nov. 3rd at 7.30 pm
Join us for a night of shared musical talent. Sign up and play some tunes, or just come by and cheer us on!
BYOB (Bring your own bottle, banjo, or balalaika) with some munchies provided. Feel free to bring your own snacks to share.
Sign up starts at 7:30pm. Everyone gets to perform at least two songs, and original songs are encouraged. Test out your new material or play some cool cover songs. This is mostly an acoustic setup, although a small amp can be made available.

Ready to Write – Workshop by John Mccaffrey – Thursday, Nov. 10th at 7 pm
Do you have a desire to write but are not sure how to begin? Has your writing hit a wall and you want to break through? Or do you just want to develop further as a writer and land that publishing contract? “Ready to Write,” a new monthly writing series at Symposia Community Bookstore, will meet all these needs and, most importantly, you’ll have fun in a safe, supported and creative environment.

East & West: Two Takes on Springsteen – Book Readings – Saturday, Nov. 12th at 4 pm
NYC writer Devin Kelly and LA poet/novelist Rich Ferguson join forces to celebrate Springsteen, along with all the guts, glory, love and loss that combine to grow the gritty, glorious Garden State.
Devin Kelly’s Blood on Blood is a poetic re-imagination of Bruce Springsteen’s seminal album Nebraska. Using characters from the songs and the near-violent, desolate, and longing themes of American life that populate Springsteen’s album, Blood on Blood tells a story of family, of loss and love, of violence and resurrection. Mirroring the brothers sung about Springsteen’s song “Highway Patrolman,” Kelly weaves his own relationship with his brother into the narrative of the collection.
Rich Ferguson’s New Jersey Me is the story of Mark McDaniel—a Bruce Lee and Bruce Springsteen-devoted young hero that dreams of escape his troubled town of Blackwater, along with its conflicting and oppressive codes of manhood. In the meantime, though, Mark lives a boy’s life, Blackwater-style: netting fish that have been killed by sudden coldwater emissions from the nuclear plant; kidnapping a chimp from the local circus; selling dirty socks to a local eccentric who may hold the key to Mark’s escape; dating a one-legged girl; and observing the increasingly mysterious behavior of his best friend, Jimmy.
Lauren Hilger is the author of Lady Be Good (CCM 2016.) Awarded the Nadya Aisenberg Fellowship from the MacDowell Colony, where she was a fellow in 2012 and 2014, her work has been chosen for Harvard Review Online’s Poetry Pick and has appeared in Gulf Coast, Kenyon Review Online, and Massachusetts Review, among other journals. She serves as a poetry editor for No Tokens Journal.

Crystallize your goals for 2017 in this group setting with author, blogger and life coach Nancy Colasurdo. She will take you through discussion and exercises to provoke thought and bring clarity to the next phase of your life. You will leave with two or three solid and inspiring goals.

Free Yoga Class – Every Wednesday at 7 pm
Have you always shied away from Yoga because you thought you weren’t very flexible?
Symposia is now opening its doors to a new environment for yoga practice: small classes, taught in a supportive, non-competitive manner, with individual attention. Students will be gently guided through basic yoga postures, yogic breathing, meditation, and relaxation techniques.

Since its inception, Puppetonia has taught children so much more than just their ABC’s and 123′s. The music and puppet shows incorporate important social skills, early academics, thinking skills, motor skills, and self-expression.
The music is fun and upbeat, and the children are encouraged to move to the rhythm, follow verbal instructions, practice sequential movements, and have a great time. And there are bubbles galore!
