“Take your Child to a Bookstore” Day – Dec. 3 from 12 to 8 pm
Symposia will be celebrating Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day. This year, nearly 150 bookstores from 35 states (plus Canada and Australia) will celebrate with special events on Dec. 3.
This event is meant to help adults start (or maintain) a tradition of introducing a child in their life to the unique pleasures that bookstores provide.
ALL CHILDREN/TEENS BOOKS WILL BE 50% OFF!
Special Event: Clap to Beauty –a Children’s Self Esteem Book – read by the author, Bianca Krystal (see details bellow) on this day at 4 pm.
Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day was conceived in November 2010 when literary suspense writer and mother Jenny Milchman from northern New Jersey blogged about creating a special holiday for children dedicated to the institution of the local bookstore: “A place of half-hidden treasures just waiting to be discovered. Where you pluck things off shelves that are richer than jewels.”
After receiving positive feedback, she created a website and chose the first Saturday in December as the new holiday. Milchman envisioned TYCBD as not only about childhood literacy, or instilling a love of reading, but of supporting bookstores as local businesses and an important part of vibrant communities.

Conversation Group – Dec. 8 at 7.30
Symposia strives to provide a place where thinking people can freely exchange and commingle ideas, imaginations, energy, talents, wild-eyed visions–where we can comfortably and effectively suspend our assumptions about life in order to inquire into the unknown together.
Our inspiration was the concept of a neighborhood conversation salon promoted by the Utne Reader in the early 1990s. The gatherings we host aren’t much like the long-ago salons of Paris or New York, where authors, artists, and socialites would get together. There is nothing elitist about this salon. The gatherings probably most resemble encounters you may have had around campfires, over kitchen tables, in dorm rooms or at slumber parties, during times in your life when everyone you knew seemed eager to share visions and ideas.
Bring a snack to share and your adventurous spirit.
Improve Your Life Through Meditation – Dec. 12 and 19 at 7 pm
Holiday Special: Peace in Our Hearts
The holidays are a time of celebration, joy, family reunion. They can be some of the happiest times in our lives but they can also be some of the most trying due to high expectations, painful ways of inter-relating, and limiting views of ourselves and the people we love. In this course, we will engage in special meditations and develop tools to quickly bring peace to our hearts, to our families and friends, and freedom from the painful ideas, which prevent us from experiencing love and joy.
