How to Think and Talk about Art – A seminar with Prof. John Bredin – Monday, Sept. 12th at 7 pm
Ever get tongue tied when trying to explain what moves you about a film, play, novel, or painting? You’re not alone. In this practical, and potentially life-changing seminar, you’ll discover the art and film critic buried deep inside you waiting to flower into bloom.
Learn why most schools discourage students from “owning” their unique responses to literature, creating a dampening effect on freedom of expression that leads to the erosion of cultivated discourse among adults. And really boring dinner parties! Drawing on the best ideas in aesthetic philosophy, the psychology of art, and on his own experiences as a liberating teacher, writer, and talk show host, professor John’s seminar is designed to enrich and empower the way you think and speak about the art works that matter to you. Maybe you’ll even be the star of your next dinner party!
This seminar will also comment on the “civic imagination,” or the power of art to build community and make a better world.
Tuition $25
