Symposia Community Events –August 2017

Donations are the lifeline of our business. If you have used books, CDs, DVDs, games, toys that you don’t want anymore, you can drop them off at our store and we’ll give you a tax-deductible receipt!

  Musical Open Mic Night – Thursday, August 24th at 7.30 pm

Join us for a night of shared musical talent. Sign up and play some tunes, or just come by and cheer us on!

BYOB (Bring your own bottle, banjo, or balalaika) with some munchies provided. Feel free to bring your own snacks to share.

Sign up starts at 7:30pm. Everyone gets to perform at least two songs, and original songs are encouraged. Test out your new material or play some cool cover songs. This is mostly an acoustic setup, although a small amp can be made available.

Borgen Project, a nonprofit fighting to eliminate global poverty! – August 7th at 7 pm

 How can you, in these politically trying times, become more involved in your government? How can you be involved in helping change the world for the better? Come learn about the Borgen Project, a nonprofit fighting to eliminate global poverty. Stop by and learn about how you can help those in need while becoming more involved in your local, state, and federal government. Whether you are Republican or Democrat we as humans need to be doing more to help reduce poverty. There will also be baked goods for the cause. So, stop by!

Free Yoga Class –  Every Wednesday at 7 pm (Except July 5th)

 Have you always shied away from Yoga because you thought you weren’t very flexible?

Symposia is now opening its doors to a new environment for yoga practice: small classes, taught in a supportive, non-competitive manner, with individual attention.  Students will be gently guided through basic yoga postures, yogic breathing, meditation, and relaxation techniques.

Suggested donation: $8

 Salsa Dance Classes –  Instructor Tracy Everitt, Liza Minnelli’s Dance Partner – Every Tuesday at 7 pm

 Learn the actual, real “going-out partner dancing but dress is informal for lessons : Wear your everyday attire…Learn to dance for weddings and events… a new start each week!…

Couples or singles…

$15 per person per hour each lesson, or $50 for 4 lessons.

Guitar Circle – Every Thursday at 8.30 pm

Come jam with local guitar players in a casual, friendly atmosphere. Share your favorite songs and learn new ones. All playing levels and styles are welcome!
