”Breaking Down the Big Project” – Writing Class

Do you want to write a novel, a memoir, create a collection of short stories or essays?  You have the idea, but you’re not sure where to start…or how to finish.

Author and teacher John McCaffrey will help you work toward your dream, providing instruction on the foundation of good writing, such as believable characters, sharp dialogue and a strong sense of place, while addressing issues such as writer’s block, time limitations and other stumbling blocks common to “people of the pen.”

Each class will include writing exercises and group discussion of student work.  Strategies on how to break into different writing markets will also be given.  Students will have the chance to read their work at an end-of-the-term event.

Monday evenings, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
May 7 – July 2, Seven Week Course

I Am Myself:  A Woman Growing Up With Tourette Syndrome – Book Reading and Signing – June 7 at 7 pm

Theresa Borrelli recounts her journey from a diagnosis of tourette syndrome in childhood to a state of acceptance.  At first, Theresa developed an attitude that was defensive, and critical of doctors who treated  her.  Slowly, as a young adult, she began to assimilate, acknowledge and reconcile her disorder, for which there is no cure.

Throughout, I Am Myself, offers the reader a universal experience, relatable to the challenges that all of us face at one time or another. This is a memoir that will change your perspective on confronting and overcoming obstacles, prejudices, and struggles. An inspiring and uplifting book.

The Evolved Urbanite – Creating a Social, Cultural & Intellectual Renaissance in Hudson County – Thursday, June 14 at 7 pm

Founded by educator John Bredin, this is a new project designed to ameliorate the sense of urban alienation and, at the same time, create a vital space to learn about culture and the arts.  A typical Evolved Urbanite gathering (or cultural party) will take place in somebody’s home, an art gallery, or bookstore like Symposia.  The structure is very simple.  One or two creative people (artists, writers, educators, etc) will present an aspect of their work for our edification and reflection.  Then, to help us think about what we just learned, we’ll have an open dialogue (about 20 minutes), followed by a mingling session for random social encounters.

Of course, musicians are also most welcome to add to the aesthetic atmosphere.
