Time: 7:30 PM
Location: Symposia Bookstore
510 Washington St.
Hoboken, NJ 07030
Map and Directions
Information: Movie fans and spiritual seekers, unite! Tonight Dean Sluyter, author of the new book Cinema Nirvana: Enlightenment Lessons from the Movies, will show and comment on clips of classic films from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Jaws, bringing out their surprising (and sometimes hilarious) spiritual content. Drawing on his 35 years of teaching experience, he will lead us in meditative practices that are simple but profoundly effective as well as revealing the unintentional wisdom in everything from the color of Dopeys eyes to the secret weapons in 007s Aston Martin. Says Michael Gelb, author of How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci, If you spliced together DNA from Quentin Tarantino and the Dalai Lama, youd get Dean Sluyter and hed write this amazing book.

Dean Sluyter
Dean Sluyter has taught meditation and led workshops throughout the U.S. since 1970 and is an award-winning former film critic. He is on the faculty of The Pingry School and New York Open Center, and he is chief meditation instructor of Aikido Schools of New Jersey, practice leader of Dzogchen Center of New Jersey, and a visiting Buddhist chaplain at Northern State Prison in Newark. He has completed numerous lengthy retreats in the U.S. and abroad and has made pilgrimages to Nepal and Tibet. Dean has written three books on spirituality in contemporary culture, in a style that Publishers Weekly calls joyously entertaining. His presentations are noted for their clarity, warmth, and humor.

Free event.
